Final thoughts about under exposure
As a budding photographer, I naturally want to try what other photographers are doing. Try here meaning copycat, and other photographers here meaning professionals who are MUCH better than me.
The two main photographers on YouTube I follow both said that they underexpose their shots so they can edit them later. Well, naively I saw their pictures and thought; I can do that! Well, I tried it. I took a few experimental shots, and the second one of each is under-exposed. Now I don't know what this plant is called, some of you might know, but I am currently slightly obsessed with its aesthetic. After I took these pictures I took them into my photo editing program, and not only could I not edit them. I wondered, "why do people do this??"
Then it occurred to me. Photographers not only take pictures with all the right settings. They also take a bunch of pictures just to see how they will come out. Adjusting the exposure here, adjust the perspective there. For those who edit their photos later, underexposure gives them some flexibility.
Being a hobbyist I really don't think that I need to be super concerned about underexposure. If it looks cool capture it, take one with less light, just in case.
